Forster Sentinel - Summer 2004
Gwynne Forster's Newsletter
Greetings Friends,
So much is going on these days that I decided I'd better let my
readers know what's happening. To begin with, I've just returned from
BOOK EXPO AMERICA in Chicago, where I signed books for two of my
publishers –Kensington/Dafina Books and BET Books. At the Thursday
night Black Book Sellers reception, I signed galleys of LAST CHANCE AT
LOVE, my next Arabesque romance, which will be published in August of
this year. I always enjoy that signing, because I get to meet so many
of the booksellers I've known and signed for over the years, and
of course I make new friends among them. Friday morning, I
signed LAST CHANCE AT LOVE at the BET Booth. That
booth was a magnet for book lovers, and you'd have thought a cyclone
blew those books off the table.
Friday afternoon, I singed the trade edition of BLUES FROM DOWN DEEP,
my second mainstream novel for Kensington Publishing Corp/Dafina
Books. I got loss in that mammoth place and when I got to the
Kensington Booth, a line of readers and bookseller was waiting for me.
I also renewed acquaintances with some wonderful old friends in the
writing community. I'm already looking forward to next years BEA in
New York City.
By the way, Bill Clinton was the keynote speaker,
introducing his new book, MY LIFE, which comes out this month. He said
his first signing will be at Hue Man Experience in Harlem, New York
City, ( June 22) where his office is. The man has enough charisma for
a dozen people.
I suppose most of you have heard raves about Romance Slam Jam 2004 in
New York. It was indeed a smash in every sense, and I am proud to have
co-chaired and co-organized that wonderful event with Donna Hill. Next
March the Slam Jam will be back home in Dallas. For information, call
1-800-272-5027.
Advance reviews say that my next mainstream novel, IF YOU WALKED IN MY
SHOES, is way above anything I've done previously. In it, each of two
women, one who needs forgiveness and one who seeks vengeance,
eventually says to the other: "What right have you to judge me? If you
had walked in my shoes, then you could accuse me." I hope you enjoy
it. It's due out December 2004."
I've signed contracts with BET to complete the trilogy
that I began with the three Harrington men in ONCE IN A LIFETIME. Russ
Harrington's story, AFTER THE LOVING, will be released in February
2005, and I am now writing Love Me or Leave Me, Drake Harrington's
story. The latter is the anchor book for BET's 2005 summer series in
which each of four books written by four different authors revolves
around a port of call.
My next mainstream novel, WHATEVER IT TAKES, for Kensington/Dafina is
due out late in 2005. It's the story of woman who hesitates at nothing
in order to get what she wants. Does she pay the piper? If so, how?
On August 7, 2004 BET Books is sponsoring a book signing and party for
my next romance, LAST CHANCE AT LOVE, in Idlewild, Michigan, where
much of the story takes place. The party is a part of Idlewild Week
Celebration and it is hosted by the Idlewild African American Chamber
of Commerce. Be there that Saturday afternoon from 2 pm to 5
pm at Morton's Motel. I'll post information on the remainder of the
Last Chance At Love tour as the dates approach.
It's been three years since I had a vacation, and I am hoping to get
one the latter part of September 2004. Before I go, I will be joining
with three other authors (Donna Hill, Sandra Kitt and Deirdre Savoy)
in a celebration of romance novels, and of the BET 2004 summer series
in particular at Hue Man Experience Bookstore, 2319 Frederick Douglas
Boulevard in (Harlem) New York City on September 18, 3-5 pm. And I'll
be back from vacation in time to participate in the Atlantic Book Post
literary event in New Orleans, 16-17 October of this year.
