Forster Sentinel - Summer 2005
Gwynne Forster's Newsletter
Greetings Friends,
June and July
were busy months, indeed. In June, I attended Book Expo
America here in
New York at the
Jacob
Javits
Center, an enormous affair. I signed copies of my
then latest mainstream novel, IF YOU WALKED IN MY SHOES for
Kensington/Dafina Books and saw numerous reader and writer friends I
hadn't seen since the last BEA. I signed my latest romance, AFTER THE
LOVING (the first sequel to Once In A Lifetime), for Affaire
de Coeur Magazine, which had a booth at BEA for the first
time. As a thank you, the publisher, Mrs. Louise B. Snead, put a color
ad of my two latest books in the magazine, gratis. Thank you, Mrs.
Snead for your continued support. The magazine has a brand new format
with color throughout, and it deserves support. On the Saturday
evening, I attended the BlackBoard Book Awards and Reception at the
Frederick Rose Hall, Jazz at
Lincoln
Center. As usual, Faye Childs gave us a glamorous,
elegant, informative and praiseworthy evening.
In July, I
joined the national trend to blogging and opened my own blog spot. The
most popular topics so far have been procrastination, obesity among
African Americans, and men on the down low. If you'd like to comment,
visit Gwynne's Sanctum at http://gwynneforster.blogspot.com.
As if blogging were
not enough to take my time from writing, about two weeks ago, I
decided to start an online book club, mainly so that those who
read my fiction may keep up with my activities, book signings, other
appearances and the like. If you'd like to join, visit
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/GwynneForsterBookClubOfFansAndReaders.
There are no fees of any kind, but there will be occasional contests,
rewards (including books from top writers) and information about
prominent writers, their activities and the writing industry in
general. I invite you to join.
The Harlem
Book Fair convened the weekend of July twenty-third on
135th Street, east and west of
Seventh Avenue. The crowd was huge, bigger than ever, the
sun was hot, and C-Span TV continued its coverage of the second
largest book festival in the North East. Some big publishers were
there for the first time, and some repeated. Kensington publishing
Corp was represented with Dafina Books,
St. Martin's Press, Warner Books, Harper Collins, and
Simon & Schuster, among others, were represented for the first time.
BET Books was there as it usually is. Ladies and Gentlemen, the word
is out...: We read!
WHATEVER IT TAKES, my fourth mainstream novel, is now
in stores. An August release, it is already racking up sales. I can
only hope that it does as well as IF YOU WALKED IN MY SHOES, my
December 2004 release, which was in its fourth printing by March.
WHATEVER IT TAKES is the story of twin sisters who have
accommodated to each for the thirty-three years of their lives, but
only because one twin has always catered to the other one, as did
their mother. That sister has grown to believe she should have
whatever she wants, but she wants a lot and will do anything, whatever
it takes, to get it. Finally, she wants too much, can't have it, and
when a little is asked of her, she demands the ultimate in exchange.
Read
it to discover the lengths to which a man will go for the woman he
loves. Read about a father's faithfulness to and love for his family
even when it would crumble through no fault of his own. Discover the
effect that a lapse in one person's judgment can have on every member
of a family.
The
final story in the Harrington Brothers trilogy will be published in
September 2005 when BET releases LOVE ME OR LEAVE ME, the story of
Drake Harrington's love for Pamela Langford. Tee C. Royal, founder and
manager of RAWSISTAZ, read the galley and reported that the story is
SUPERB. Thank you, Tee. If you haven't read the other two books in the
series, you've get some sweet moments while reading ONCE IN A LIFETIME
and AFTER THE LOVING, the stories of Telford Harrington and Russ
Harrington, respectively. I'm currently working on my first novel for
Harlequin, due out sometime next year. I hope to have a long and
productive relationship with that publisher.
My
husband and I hope to leave on August ninth for a short vacation in
Eastern Europe. It will be short, because I can't spare
more time. I'm taking my Dana Wireless with me so that I can work when
I'm not relishing the Danube river and the magnificent Habsburg Castle
above it, but frankly, I'm not expecting too much work out of myself.
I will return to the States in time
participate in the Atlantic BookPost Literary Retreat, Hilton Savannah
DeSoto Hotel, Savannah, Georgia, September 16-18 and the Baltimore
Book Festival, Saturday, September 24, 2005. Hope to see you there.
If you would like to receive
future copies of Forster Sentinel, please reply with your
e-mail address. Don't forget to join my book club and to visit my
blog.
Warmest regards, Gwynne
