Forster's Newsletter
Much of relevance has
happened since the last issue. I began the year with a schedule of
four books and, I've since obligated myself for a novella. I finished
What A Woman Wants, a mainstream novel for Kensington/ Dafina
Books, and immediately got to work on One Night With You, my
2007 book for Harlequin's Kimani Romance line. I thought I'd never
finish that story. You see, the hero refused to heel; I mean, he
wouldn't obey me. After a while, I realized that he knew I'd fallen in
love with him, and alpha male that he is, he let me know who was boss.
(all my characters are real people to me). I hope you like him. I sent
the manuscript to my editor a few days after I returned from a short
vacation in
Europe. The weather was mostly cold and rainy there, but
that did not mar my pleasure in being there. My husband and I had a
wonderful time.
The day after I returned fro
Europe, I was back at this computer working on my next
novel for Harlequin's Kimani Arabesque line. I started the novel--As
Good As It Gets--while on the plane headed for
Budapest, and I managed to write one day while I was there
and on the trip home. I traveled with a two-pound Danna Wireless by
Alpha Smart, and it's a joy to use. Considering the tasks I set for
myself at the beginning of the year, it is easy to imagine how my time
will be spent for the remainder of the year.
In late April, I addressed
Sisters Sippin' Tea at their annual conference in Washington, D. C.,
and I have rarely enjoyed a conference so much. The reading group
honored Dr. Dorothy Height, founder of the National Council of Negro
Women, so the gala night, they all wore hats. The discussions were
mentally invigorating, and I felt as if I left there with some new and
lasting friends.
I met some of you in mid-May
at Book Expo America 2006 in Washington, D. C., where I signed copies
of Her Secret Life, my July 2006 release and my first book for
Harlequin's Kimani Romance. Romantic Times Book Club magazine
gave it a rating of four stars. It's one of four books released to
launch Kimani Romance, and I'm pleased that it received the highest
rating.
I was scheduled to sign at
BEA copies of Destiny's Daughters, which Kensington/Dafina
published in February 2006, but books didn't arrive from the
publisher's office. I felt badly for the readers and librarians who
wasted their time standing in line in order to get the book.
July will be a busy month
for me. The 14th and 15th of the month will find
me in Dallas, Texas at the 2006 Black Writers Reunion and Conference,
which returns after an absence of five years.. One of our most
prestigious conferences, it is being convened at the Radisson Hotel &
suites,
2330 W. Northwest Highway,
Dallas, TX.75220. I am holding the first workshop
Friday morning, July 14 at
9:30 am. I'll be discussing Getting Started on a
Novel, and it's more than sitting in front of the computer
and writing, although that is a part of it.
On
Saturday, July 22, 2006, I'll be at the Harlem Book Fair
on
West 135th Street,
Harlem,
New York. I'll be signing for Harlequin (Kimani
Press) and Kensington/ Dafina Books. Be there, no matter what the
weather decides to do.
July 27th to July 29th
I'll be in
Atlanta,
Georgia attending the annual conference of Romance
Writers of America (RWA). I hope to see many of you at one of these
events.
September 9, 2006, I'll be the keynote author and The
Fourth Annual Author's Luncheon,
Metropolitan
United
Methodist
Church,
1121 S. Lanvale Street,
Baltimore,
Md. For more information, please contact, S. E.
Johnson, 410-484-1769. The program begins at
1:30 pm. If you live in or near
Baltimore, please come out to meet me.
On
October 21, 2006, I am a featured author at The
Booklover's Ball at The Wine Up,
3306 N. Davidson Street, Suite A,
Charlotte,
North Carolina. From
6 to 9 pm, I'll be there to greet you. For more
